It’s a good thing Sergio Ramos makes his living playing with his feet instead of his hands. The talented pro soccer player played a big role in Real Madrid winning its first Copa del Rey since 1993 with a 1-0 victory over rival Barcelona.
Just like any American sports champion, the team celebrated with a parade through the streets. Riding in an open-air bus, the players hoisted the 33-pound trophy aloft to the cheers of fans lining the streets. There was no mention if vuvuzelas were being used.
Everything was going well until Ramos lost his grip on the coveted cup. Standing at the front of the bus, Ramos dropped the trophy, which fell directly in the path of the bus’ wheel. Before the driver could hit the brakes, the silver chalice added a new verse to the old children’s song “The Wheels On The Bus”. Apparently kids can now sing “The wheels on the bus go round and round and right over the Copa del Rey.”
Talk about embarrassing. It’s the first major trophy the team has won in three years, and you throw it under the wheel of a bus. A Madrid spokesperson said the crushed trophy needs some repairs. No kidding, but I guess if a toddler can survive being run over by a bus, so can a hunk of metal.
I don’t know which is a more embarrassing parade faux pas, dropping the trophy or causing Rudolph in balloon form to deflate. After the blunder, Ramos might be put in isolation inside a giant soccer ball.
Skynet captured the cup drop on video.
