Sharon Gould left her Georgian-era home in Tadworth, Surrey, for a few hours, possibly to run errands, maybe get a meal, y’know, the usual stuff that folks do when they leave their home. When the 52-year-old woman returned to her home, she found that she had been the target of thieves. The criminals didn’t break into her home or garage; what they wanted was right out for everyone to see. Thieves stole Sharon Gould’s driveway. Talk about your daring daylight robbery!
Ms. Gould’s driveway was made of 100-year-old stone called Yorkstone that is highly prized for how it looks after it has been exposed to the elements, and 100 years on a driveway will do that to stone. It’s usually found in older homes, like Ms. Gould’s period home, and it is highly prized. The stone stolen from Gould’s driveway by the daring thieves is worth about £100 per meter, so roughly, thieves made off with £12,000 (about $18,800 US) worth of paving stones in total.
“They probably did it very quickly and there was probably a team of them because the stones are very difficult to take up,” said Gould. “It must have weighed a tonne. It’s just unbelievable.”
