Nature keeps us on our toes. Everything from strange weather events like earthquakes or tsunamis to weird animals like a drunken elk in a tree or dachshund-snatching bears or a combination of the two with fish falling from the sky challenge us to be alert and ready.
Now, when those weird or outrageous moments occur someone is usually around with a video camera to capture whatever Mother Nature throws in front of them. That is, they capture the Kodak moment, unless their camera gets stolen by an octopus.
Minus the thievery, that was the case when nature lovers were taking a stroll along the shore at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach, California. First they spotted an octopus in the shallow water and chatted about the sea creature changing colors. Soon after the octopus was joining them on shore. It doddered about, pulling itself forward via tentacle power until it was about six feet from its home. Like someone taking out the trash, the rare land rover then deposited a dead crab before heading back into the water. All together, the octopus was out of the water for about two-and-a-half minutes.
There’s no indication this land-walking octopus is kin to the famous soccer-predicting octopus named Paul, may he rest in peace.
