Did this whole "President Colbert" thing force him to cancel the show?
For those of you in the reading audience who are fans of, or might have had tickets to a taping of, the Colbert Report, don’t bother turning on your television or heading down to the studios for the tapings. The Colbert Report has canceled its tapings for the rest of the week, and it may be awhile before the show returns from its unplanned hiatus. Nobody’s talking, but something’s rotten at Comedy Central. Was it bears, nature’s super predator? It was bears, wasn’t it.
Let the speculation begin! Without any news from Colbert or his corporate overlords at Comedy Central or Viacom, nobody knows why the Colbert Report cancelled a week of tapings and has gone into immediate reruns. Knowing Colbert, it must be something bad, as he has had perfect attendance while doing the show and even taped after getting the flu and breaking his wrist. Also knowing the way Jon Stewart runs The Daily Show, only two things have canceled that show’s tapings: a staff member suicide and the birth of Stewart’s child.
Maybe there’s some kind of problem with Colbert’s fake presidential bid and the Super PAC he started to basically fund his own prank. If you want to jump to something other than bad news immediately, that’s the most likely suspects, though that doesn’t explain Colbert’s unusual absence on Twitter.
