While it wasn’t a record crowd for last night’s NBA All-Star Game, the lucky fans in attendance actually got to watch a thrilling basketball competition and not just a simple exhibition. At one point, the East was down a staggering 21 points, and that’s when things got chippy. Players grabbed rebounds, fouled one another, and actually played defense to take over the game, crawling back to within a single point before coming up just a little short. The West beat the East by a score of 152-149 in last night’s 2012 NBA All-Star Game.
“Being a competitor, no matter All-Star Game or not, you don’t want to be blown out,” said LeBron James, who scored 36 points for the East. “I just wanted to try to pick it up and see if we could make a run at it, and we did.”
However, not only was last night’s All-Star Game a legitimate game for portions of it, it was also a historic game. Kobe Bryant scored 27 points and passed Michael Jordan on the all-time All-Star Game scoring list. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant scored 36 points to win All-Star MVP honors in a Western Conference victory. On the Eastern side, Dwyane Wade had a triple-double (24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists).
