Alex Trebek had a mild heart attack; it is his second since 2007.

Alex Trebek, like Lonesome George, is the last of a breed.  Alex Trebek is a game show host, and they don’t make those anymore.  Aside from hard-partying Pat Sajak, Trebek is the last game show host of note still working, which is why he’s one of the television world’s great treasures.  Alex Trebek suffered a mild heart attack last night, according to news reports.  Trebek was checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last night, rushed from his Los Angeles home to the hospital for observation purposes.

Alex Trebek has been Jeopardy’s host since 1984.  The 71-year-old Canadian gameshow host is expected to recover fully before the filming of Jeopardy’s 29th season begins in July, says a spokesperson for Sony Pictures Television, the company that makes Jeopardy. Trebek previously had a heart attack in December 2007, but made a full recovery.

Remember:  not long ago, Alex Trebek was fighting off thieves.  I have no doubt he’ll be able to recover from this heart attack.
