Since Coachella started in 1999, the music festival in Coachella, California, has grown by leaps and bounds. Coachella now fills 6 days–two three-day weekends— in order to meet the demand of fans wanting to see the best music in the world. Well, now Coachella is leaving Southern California and is heading out to sea. Goldenvoice has announced a pair of branded Coachella music cruises, in which nearly 3000 fans will cram on board a boat bound for a Caribbean paradise to rock out to top-level acts.
The S.S. Coachella cruise will take place aboard the Celebrity Silhouette, a 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship with room for 2,800 fans, featuring 4-person cabins, alcoves, a half-acre of grass, and even a small theater that Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett called a “mini Royal Albert Hall.” Goldenvoice is the promoter of Coachella. The first tour, a 3-day cruise to The Bahamas, will depart on December 16; the first tour, a 4-day cruise to Jamaica, will depart on December 19.
Among the 20 musical guests will be LCD Soundsystem, Sleigh Bells, Girl Talk, Pulp, Hot Chip, and Yeasayer.
