There’s a lot of incest going on in this world. Well, I don’t know if it’s a lot, but there definitely is incest going on in this world. As the family union shatters and people separate and stray farther and farther afield to find mates, you’re going to have more incidents of unusual, inter-family marriage, if only because you may not know your son, daughter, parents, or half-siblings. Mothers have slept with sons, brothers and sisters have slept together, and now there’s the story of a father and daughter making a family unit. Valerie Spruill discovered that she had been married to her own father some 6 years after his death.
Virginia Spruill of Doylestown, Ohio, did not have an easy life. Her biological mother and father got together when the father was 15, and she was raised by her grandparents. At age 9, she discovered that the people she thought were here mother and father were actually her grandparents, and that a family friend was her mother. Her husband/father passed away in 1998 and SIX years after his death an uncle told her about her… unusual marriage, and DNA testing confirmed it. Why he didn’t tell her this BEFORE she was married to her own her father for decades is beyond me.
Spruill, who has had multiple strokes and suffers from complications from diabetes, is a relentlessly upbeat woman despite her HORRIBLE life. She has a message for her mother and father’s other children, of which she believes there are at least 6 brothers and who knows how many sisters:
“My biggest goal is to find them and let ’em know that [their mother] loved them, no matter what, and [to say], ‘Thank God she gave you away like she did me, so you could have a beautiful life.” She added, “I want this to be more of an inspirational story. If I’ve come through this, anyone can come through anything through the help of the Lord.”
