Burger King has been trying for years to dethrone McDonald’s as the king of America’s fast food empire, but they’re been unsuccessful thus far. They’re tried pretty much everything: a Microsoft Windows 7 tie-in, a gigantic burger served like pizza, delivery service in select markets, and a complete menu overhaul and redo. So far, nothing’s worked. Now, Burger King isn’t looking to beat McDonald’s, anymore, they’re wanting to join them. Burger King has asked to join up with McDonald’s to craft a McWhopper.
It’s not a permanent declaration of peace, just a temporary one for a good cause. September 21 is Peace Day, and Burger King offered up the idea of a McWhopper as a peace offering with the proceeds of the special sale to benefit Peace One Day, a non-profit group that promotes world peace. The idea of a Whopper with Big Mac sauce sounds phenomenal, but it’s also currently a pipe dream. McDonald’s shot down the idea of a McWhopper, but they left open the possibility of doing something else with Burger King in honor of World Peace Day. McDonald’s says the two brands can do something bigger, better, more befitting of their respective brands, but they didn’t say what they might have in mind.
