Pop Fi has brought all sorts of homes to your attention. We’ve had houses made of newspaper, “backpack” additions to condos and houses made from recycled trash. Even dog houses that would make some people jealous.
The latest unusual home is a house made of umbrellas. The structure by Japanese designer Kengo Kuma is comprised of umbrellas that feature zippers around their edges. Once all the bumbershoots are zipped together, a dome-like structure appears.
Inside the dome, the ribs and handles of the umbrellas remain exposed and are used as places from which to hang clothes and other items for storage.
The tips of the umbrellas poke out of the exterior of the dome giving the structure a sea urchine-like quality.
Unless one of the zippers gets broken, I’m guessing there’s rarely a leak in an umbrella house.
