When you think of safe, effective alternate fuel cars, a few years ago all you’d think about is Toyota’s Prius. After all, it’s the hybrid car of choice for celebrities everywhere, since it was the first one onto the market. However, thanks to new developments in hybrid vehicles and Toyota’s safety failures, bad press, and deliberate dishonesty, the Japanese automaker has taken some lumps. That might be why they’re announcing plans to push a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle to market by 2015.
Once again, Toyota is trying to innovate the technology and get other car makers to sign on leases. After all, Toyota’s had their FCHV on the road since 2007, and supposedly they’ve brought the cost down of manufacturing a hydrogen-powered vehicle by 90%, making consumer cars a manageable, but still outrageous, $50,000 sales point. Because there’s nothing safer than a Toyota that’s been filled to the brim with the stuff used to make atomic bombs!
