Today seems like it’s turning out to be weird wedding day here at PopFi. First we had the pair destined to be together since birth, and then we had the couple that shouldn’t be together because of their shared parent. Now we’ve got a wedding proposal in the least romantic place possible. Steven Sparks, 41, wanted to propose to his girlfriend, 29-year-old Carolyn Payne, in a place where she’d least expect it. He popped the question during a tour of Brighton, England’s Victorian-era sewers!
Near the end of the tour, the guide leading the group through the sewers asked if anyone had any questions. That’s when Steven made his move and announced that he had a question for Carolyn before dropping to one knee. To delighted applause, the shocked young woman agreed to the marriage, despite the fact her proposal was in the middle of an ancient sewer. I guess the summer wedding season is upon us!
“Anyone can get engaged at the Eiffel Tower or over a candlelit dinner but this was unique,” said Mr. Sparks. “The only downside was I was paranoid that I would drop the diamond ring down the drain.”
