The Mafia phrase “sleeps with the fishes” certainly applies to this strange true crime tale.

Teenage thieves in the Chicago-land area were weirdly thorough in making sure there were no witnesses to their crime.

Three teens broke into an apartment in a building that was evacuated due to a recent fire. The young thugs pilfered the normal items one finds in the average home – a video game system, cd player, dvds, video games and jewelry. On edge, the trio wanted to ensure that no living thing could pin this crime on them.

Looking around the apartment they spotted three witnesses, albeit of the swimming variety.

In order to eliminate their spectators, the cruel criminals resorted to an unusual way to axe the golden observers. The thieves filled the goldfishes‘ home with pantry items. Hot sauce, spices, ketchup and mustard were poured into the bowl.

Police tracked down the teen fish killers after they sold some of the items they pilfered at area pawn shops. In addition to their charges for theft, animal cruelty charges were also applied.
