There’s more to baseball than just the highlights from last night’s game. That’s right. I’m talkin’ to you, SportsCenter.
We’re sick of watching the same three or four plays a thousand times a day. And so is Steve Gebhart from Co-EdMagazine.com. He’s just published a list of “22 Baseball Videos That Should Be On ‘SportsCenter’.”
The implication being that they won’t. As Gebhart says in his introduction, “These are videos only the internet could love.”
First, there’s the “Foul Ball Catching Master” in his interview with Katie Couric. This guy has mastered the art of catching baseballs during games. I can say that as a definitive statement since he’s caught at least one ball in the last 450 games played. Amazing. Period.
Lower down the list is a video of the Midnight Sun Game, which is played in Fairbanks, Alaska and is considered to be one of the top 12 baseball-related events any true fan must see. I think watching the video should count (plane tickets are expensive!).
There are also some videos for the avant-garde baseball fan out there who can appreciate America’s pastime beyond watching games or playing pick-up games on Sundays. Want to see how baseball bats are made? Gebhart’s got a mini-documentary on the list. Want to see if a baseball can be blended in a standard kitchen appliance? Then the clip “Will It Blend?” is definitely for you. I won’t spoil the ending, but I don’t think that dude is going to be making any protein shakes at home any time soon.
All in all, these clips will appease any baseball fan’s appetite while we wait for the regular season to start.
