We all have some word that’s a pet peeve of ours. Some people don’t like the word “moist” and its many connotations. Some people just hate slang in general. However, as any parent of a teenager could tell you, there is no word in the English language more obnoxious than the simple word, “Whatever.” Apparently, whatever is the least popular phrase in the entire United States.
Of course, the word whatever will always make me think of one person: musician and director Liam Lynch. In fact, if I say the word, I usually say it in the style of his hit song, United States of Whatever. If you’re not familiar with the disgustingly catchy tune, allow me to take you back in time to 1999 and the Silf and Olly Show.
