Beautiful Fountain Choreography

Posted 11/09/2009 8:30 am by Ron Hogan

burj-dubai-fountain.jpg

This is simply beautiful.  Just what I needed on a Monday morning.  The soothing combination of Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman’s beautiful song, Time to Say Goodbye, and the beautiful sight of the tallest fountain in the world’s powerful sprayers set to lights and music in a graceful dance of H20 and music.

That fountain, with sprays capable of topping 393 feet (or 120 meters) is one of the most powerful in the world, so it’s only naturally that it’s right near what will be the world’s tallest building, the staggering Burj Dubai.  The engineering marvels being built in that country are just unfathomable.  To bring that amount of green grass and water to the desert is just staggering.  No wonder it’s becoming one of the world’s foremost tourist destinations thanks to its cutting-edge architecture.

    XKCD Loves The Internet

Posted 2/08/2010 10:30 am by Ron Hogan

It’s one of my favorite XKCD strips of all time:  XKCD Loves The Discovery Channel.  And now it’s come to life in what has to be the ultimate tribute to the Internet thanks to Olga Nunes, featuring puppets, Neil Gaiman, Wil Wheaton, Cory Doctrow, Miss Cellania, Google Zurich, and pretty much everyone of any importance […]

Super Bowl Ads Get Pantsless And Weird

Posted 2/08/2010 6:30 am by Ron Hogan

During last night’s Super Bowl, there was one really disturbing trend that emerged.  There were a lot of guys without pants on.  From the sumo wrestlers in their mawashis to an extremely casual Friday ad from pants company Dockers, this was the year of being sans pantaloons for a lot of Super Bowl advertisers.  I […]

    Anatomy Of A News Report

Posted 2/02/2010 10:30 am by Ron Hogan

Everyone who has ever seen the news is vaguely familiar with the formula of how a standard news piece is put together.  When it’s not a breaking news story, just something they want to push a report on, there’s a pretty standard template of how to do it.  Newswipe, a BBC Four TV news satire […]

    Taylor’s Broken Grammy

Posted 2/02/2010 6:00 am by Ron Hogan

You know, I’m really surprised this sort of thing doesn’t happen all the time.  The media loves to have people pose with their arms full of awards.  For example, after her four Grammy wins yesterday, Taylor Swift dutifully paraded around with her four Grammys in her arms.  Then, a combination of her nervousness and the […]

    Pee-wee Herman’s New iPad

Posted 2/01/2010 6:30 am by Ron Hogan

This is great.  Pee-wee Herman is all excited about his new iPad, only to get dragged down to earth by his friends at the Playhouse, who point out just how non-revolutionary the Apple iPad has turned out to be.  If you’re a fan of the old Pee-wee’s Playhouse, or if you’re just not a follower […]

    Epic Wedding Invitation, The Movie

Posted 1/26/2010 8:00 am by Ron Hogan

When Jeff Wong and Erin Martin decided to get married, they wanted to do something different for their invitation.  Rather than print out a bunch of pieces of paper and mail them all around, they decided to take things one step farther and get a little creative.  Behold the end result,  the EPIC Wedding trailer!  […]

    Walmart’s Funniest Commercial Ever

Posted 1/25/2010 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

This is quite possibly the funniest commercial I’ve ever seen.  Shockingly, it’s for big-box retail megagiant Walmart.  Not only do they own everything, and make more money than most of the world’s countries, now they’re also making some of the best ads to hit television.  When I saw this one during the AFC Championship Game, […]

Conan’s $1.5 Million Dollar Comedy Bit

Posted 1/21/2010 6:00 am by Ron Hogan

Conan O’Brien has decided to spend his last weeks as host of The Tonight Show sticking it to NBC.  That’s the logic behind his show’s newest character, the Bugatti Veyron Mouse.  It’s a Bugatti Veyron, the most expensive car in the world, with big ears and a mouse nose/whiskers attached to the grill.  Why did […]

Jay Versus Conan, Crazy Cartoon Rumble

Posted 1/20/2010 7:30 am by Ron Hogan

The Jay Leno/Conan O’Brien/NBC situation is getting a lot of publicity and news coverage.  From Coco’s Craigslist solicitation on, it’s just getting stranger and stranger.  However, there’s nothing stranger than this weird Chinese news cartoon from NMA News about the situation.  From the people who brought you the amazingly weird Tiger Woods reenactment, here’s another […]

Microwaving Wine Boxes Is A Bad Idea

Posted 1/19/2010 6:00 am by Ron Hogan

Recently, I had a pretty dangerous experience.  I took a piece of china that I had assumed was microwave safe, and put it in the microwave.  In case you can’t tell by the set up, the china is actually old enough, or fancy enough, to have a metal lip around the plate.  So, what I […]

    Cute Things Exploding

Posted 1/18/2010 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

There are two things everyone loves:  cute things and explosions.  Well, I like cute things and explosions anyway.  That’s where the brilliant new website Cute Things Exploding comes in.  They take your favorite viral videos and have them all end with something adorable blowing to smithereens.  While YesButNoButYes describes the site as “designed by a […]

“Pants On The Ground” Fever Hits The NFL

Posted 1/18/2010 6:30 am by Ron Hogan

The game between the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys was pretty much over from the very beginning.  Dallas fumbled.  Dallas missed a field goal.  The Vikings scored on a 45-yard touchdown bomb from veteran quarterback Brett Favre to Sidney Rice.  By that time, it was clear that the game was going to be decided and […]

Fake Gatorade Bottles Bash Tiger Woods

Posted 1/13/2010 8:00 am by Ron Hogan

If you were shopping for Gatorade in Longmont, Colorado today, you might have sensed something was a bit amiss.  Gatorade, long represented by Tiger Woods, was the target of an unusual art project.  Well, the creator calls it pop art; the Food and Drug Administration may call it tampering or adulteration.  Over 1000 bottles of […]

Wake Up With The Death Metal Rooster

Posted 1/13/2010 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

It’s been called the Death Metal Rooster.  While some birds have golden pipes, making beautiful music with their songs, this is a creaky old chanticleer with a throat like a finishing nail being dragged across a rusted out rain barrel.  That horrible croaky crow actually makes it significantly more awesome, because singing badly and loudly […]
