You’ve already seen the video of Elizabeth Lambert’s on-pitch throw-down versus the Cougars of BYU this week, and now the violence has spread all the way to Rhode Island. The state high school championship game between the Woonsocket Villa Novans and the Tolman Tigers turned into Kenilworth Road, American Style, after a bump between Woonsocket’s Kristen Cahill and Tolman’s Maria Lopera turned into a full-fledged Royal Rumble melee. Not only did the violence ensue on the pitch, this time it spread into the crowd, where there was a violent altercation between Woonsocket and Tolman fans in the stands!
I know tensions can run high between athletes on the field of play, but I never figured that there’d be any violence between fans of high school girls soccer in Rhode Island. Yes, Tolman did get beaten pretty badly in the game, but that’s no excuse for Tolman fans to give beatings to the Woonsocket side, or vice versa. People are losing their minds! It’s like someone slipped crazy juice in the water supply lately.
