You’re just minding your own business, walking down the street or doing whatever it is that you do, and someone comes across you. Boom, you’re discovered! It’s every person’s Hollywood fantasy, but Fede Alvarez is living it. The producer/director/animator/jack of all trades from Uruguay has made his celluloid dreams come true, after his short film Ataque de Panico! (Panic Attack!) won a contest.
Now, Fede is going to go to Hollywood to work with superstar director Sam Raimi to develop a movie. He’s turned $500 and a dream into a $30 million dollar development deal and major Hollywood clout! His film concerns a giant robot attack on Montevideo, the capital ofUruguay, and features some pretty spectacular special effects considering Alvarez did them all himself. Check it out, it’s an incredible feat!
Really, as Fede would tell you, it takes a whole lot of hard work and practice to get noticed. I have no doubt he spent hundreds of hours on his video direction and CGI work before anyone ever saw a second of film. He’s earned his chance at stardom via sweat equity.
