Conan O’Brien has decided to spend his last weeks as host of The Tonight Show sticking it to NBC. That’s the logic behind his show’s newest character, the Bugatti Veyron Mouse. It’s a Bugatti Veyron, the most expensive car in the world, with big ears and a mouse nose/whiskers attached to the grill. Why did Conan do this? Because, as he says in the video found over at Jalopnik, it’s “crazy expensive.” That’s also why the Bugatti Veyron Mouse’s theme song is “Satisfaction,” by the Rolling Stones.
The total cost for the bit is, roughly, $1.5 million dollars. He’s going to make NBC President Jeff Zucker bleed for every cent of money they think they’re going to make by moving Jay back to The Tonight Show. Is it vindictive? Of course! Is it awesome? Of course! I think we all wish we could legally soak our employers for every red cent before ending a job we were unjustly terminated from. I mean, the poor guy’s having to turn to Craigslist to make ends meet!
This is the kind of brazen, reckless comedy I loved seeing from Conan O’Brien when he started at Late Night. This is why I think he’s the funniest host in late night television, and the class of the 11:35 crop. Go Team Coco!
