James Jones has gone from simple working man to folk hero. How’d he become an icon to millions of parents? Simple, he lost his temper in an epic way. It’s a horrible example to the children, and Jones knows that, but he couldn’t take any more. After his special-needs daughter was hit, pushed, insulted, and pelted with condoms on the school bus, Jones did what a lot of people in his situation wouldn’t; James Jones stormed onto the school bus, had his daughter point out the bullies in question, and then Jones gave them an angry dressing-down in front of the entire bus full of middle schoolers.
Jones, 42, has two children. His 11-year-old daughter, a student at Greenwood Lakes Middle School in Lake Mary, Florida, has cerebral palsy. After his outburst, Jones was arrested and charged with misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function. Still, Jones, who told children on the bus, “This is my daughter, and I will kill the (expletive) who fought her,” has become a hero to millions of frustrated parents who know that schools won’t deal with real bullying until it’s too late.
“He said he was going to (expletive) the bus driver up first, and he (then) he was going to do it to everybody else,” said Alonzo Brundidge, one of the teens confronted. The 13-year-old Brundidge’s mother is angry, but she should be angry with herself for raising a child who’d pick on a girl with cerebral palsy. He, and all the other kids, on that bus needed to be yelled at for either picking on this girl or allowing her to be picked on.
