Weird Al’s Alpocalypse Debuts With “Perform This Way”

Posted 6/21/2011 6:30 am by

Weird Al, reading the newspaper in a nun's habit during "Perform This Way."

Weird Al Yankovic is better than ever.  Despite the years of performing his hilarious hits, Weird Al may be doing better work than ever.  ”White And Nerdy” propelled Al to the top ten, and it looks as though he’s not stopping any time soon.  Amazingly, Alpocalypse is Weird Al’s 13th full length album, and it marks his 32nd year of performing in show business.  PopMatters has a great Weird Al interview; if you don’t want to read it, how about just scrolling down a little and feasting your beady little eyes on the majesty that is Weird Al’s face on a hot girl’s body in his brand new, incredible video for “Perform This Way.”

Honestly, I’m just glad to see this video.  The fact that it is weird and hilarious is a bonus; I was afraid that Lady Gaga’s riff with Weird Al would cause the song to disappear into Al’s live sets and never make it to a CD.  Still, it’s great to see they were able to clear up the confusion, especially since the message of Lady Gaga and the message of Weird Al is to embrace your weirdness and the reasons why you’re different!  The Julliard-educated piano prodigy and the teenage accordion phenomenon are more alike than they are different; it’s glad they’re able to come to terms and run with it.

I’m not going to pretend that I understand the thing that Bob Moog invented and perfected in the 1950′s and 60′s, but it is an awesome machine.  Dr. Robert Moog, AKA Bob, passed away in 2005 but Google is honoring his legacy with an awesome musical Google Doodle that recreates the complexity and possibilities of [...]

The Great Gatsby Trailer Is… Great

Posted 5/23/2012 7:00 am by

Leonardo DiCaprio and Baz Luhrmann are two crowd-pleasing forces when separate, but when you combine them you get star-making.  Their 1996 team-up Romeo + Juliet made stars out of DiCaprio and Claire Danes, and since then both have gone on to some pretty big things.  Well, they’re reuniting for a big budget, flashy version of [...]

Kate Upton is one of the most famous models in the world.  Her bikini-clad figure was displayed on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, and that was the moment she went from being a working model to being a celebrity model.  Since then, videos of her goofing around in bikinis (or just in [...]

The modern day smartphone is an awesome invention, but sometimes there’s just too much going on.  Too many apps, too much information, too many things on the screen.  Sometimes, you just need simple information delivered in an easy-to-read way.  That’s what the Pebble is for.  Basically, the Pebble is a smartphone accessory in the form [...]

Blake Griffin Posterizes Pau Gasol

Posted 4/05/2012 7:30 am by

There’s a reason the Los Angeles Clippers have turned the City of Angels into Lob City.  Blake Griffin, for all his faults as a basketball player, is a freakish athlete with incredible jumping and dunking skills.  While he’s not much of a shooter or free-throw hitter, he can slam a dunk home with the best [...]

Google’s Project Glass, An In-Glasses HUD?

Posted 4/05/2012 6:30 am by

The built-in heads-up display is one of the crucial components that prevents us from having our sci-fi future now.  After all, every good postmodern nightmare has HUDs.  The Terminator’s killing power comes from a heads-up display; RoboCop and his great justice also comes via a HUD.  Now, Google’s secretive Google X division is putting together [...]

Ron Burgandy Announces “Anchorman” Sequel On “Conan”

Posted 3/29/2012 6:30 am by

Anchorman is a comedy classic.  The pairing of Will Ferrell with frequent co-collaborator Steve Carell and Paul Rudd?  Genius.  The whole movie is as hilarious now as the first time I saw it, maybe more so.  As it turns out, I’m not the only one who wanted more of Ron Burgandy’s over-the-top antics, and Ferrell [...]

Well, it’s finally arrived.  The first trailer for Tim Burton’s remake of “Dark Shadows” is here, and it’s… a lot more funny than I expected.  Apparently, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have decided to scrap the soap opera elements, and play up the crazy camp of the original series by emphasizing its 70′s roots and [...]

Fire And Rain Dominate Kenseth-Won Daytona 500

During this year’s Daytona 500, there were two major stories:  fire and rain.  The rain makes sense; after all, this is the first Daytona 500 ever delayed an entire day due to rainy conditions.  The fire is something new added to the story during the race itself.  While officials were trying to dry out the [...]

The Dictator’s Sacha Baron Cohen Defies Academy Awards

When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scientists told Sacha Baron Cohen, “Don’t show up in character or we’ll ban you,” they were obviously serious about it.  However, I’m pretty sure that when you tell Sacha Baron Cohen not to do something, he’s going to do it anyway, and be more insistent that he [...]
