Loki and cute kids: Tumblr just blew up.
Marvel’s movie division is one of the most profitable companies in the world right now, never mind the profits they make off their comic books, toys, video games, and other assorted media and entertainments. Marvel has one of the world’s highest-grossing films ever put to digital projection in the billion-dollar The Avengers, and it’s a credit to the company that they keep coming up with great ways to get audiences in seats, sell DVDs and Blu rays, and keep turning comic book gold into cinema gold. Part of this is due to the strength of the stories, part of this is due to the creative team bringing them to life (Thor: The Dark World is directed by Game of Thrones vet Alan Taylor), and part of it is due to the actors who play the characters. Thor: The Dark World doesn’t come out until November 8, but the marketing blitz has started in earnest with one of the funniest advertisements I’ve seen in a long time. Loki teams up with a group of adorable kids and talks super heroes in a series of spots produced by Comedy Central.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-h4ulFK2EkThe brilliant ads spoof the AT&T “It’s Not Complicated” spots, in which a droll spokesman asks questions of and talks with a group of adorable, precocious kids. They’re great ads by themselves, but when you exchange the spokesman guy for Tom Hiddleston in full Loki regalia? Man, the spots really get funny. There’s a bunch of them floating around out there; this one happens to be my favorite because it seems the most in-character for Loki, and it’s the only one Comedy Central’s put online (so far).
