When it comes to demolishing a building, there’s no real way to take a building down safely. Unless you can deflate it like a dome, there’s always a chance that something can go wrong. When FirstEnergy Corporation was looking to demolish Ohio Edison’s old Mad River Power Plant, they knew the trickiest part would be bringing down the 275-foot smokestack. Still, they brought in professionals, cleared a landing area, and the smokestack fell. Unfortunately, the demolished building fell the wrong way and knocked out power for thousands of people in Springfield, Ohio. Whoops!
