Apocalyptic fiction has been around as long as fiction itself has. People are naturally fascinated about the end of the world, the end of days, the last of humanity… it’s been a hot topic in movies this year, from Seeking a Friend for the End of the World to Melancholia and even farther back to Cold War atomic chaos movies like Miracle Mile and gas crisis flicks like Mad Max. We want to find out something about the last days, even if it’s something fictional. When the world is coming to an end, what do you do? Do you abandon your job, your family, your life? Or do you soldier on? That’s the question remaining for Hank Palace, AKA the last policeman and hero of a new trilogy from Quirk Books called The Last Policeman.
The Last Policeman is from author Ben H. Winters. You’ll know Winters from his previous works, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and one of the better horror fiction books I read last year, Bedbugs. He’s a great writer and this new book trilogy looks like it’s going to be great. If you need more prodding, then you can either read a sample of The Last Policeman at Quirk Books’ website or watch the book trailer below.
