In January 2009, it seemed as though Microsoft’s venerable series of flight simulator games, dubbed Microsoft Flight Simulator, was doomed to die off. The team, responsible for many hit games, was let go. After all, the last Microsoft Flight Simulator, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, came out in 2006. That’s a huge gap with no products hitting the market, and when the team was let go, MSF seemed dead. As it turns out, only the Simulator part is dead; Microsoft has announced the rebranded Microsoft Flight video game will be hitting shelves soon.
I’ve got fond memories of Microsoft Flight Simulator. In high school, we had a computer lab that featured a whole bunch of different modules. You went to a module, did it for 6 weeks, then moved to a different module. The hottest module was, of course, the flight simulator, in which you sat behind a realistic cockpit and flew a plane through various obstacles and challenges. It was FUN!
Still, I can’t wait for Microsoft Flight Attendant, the add-on pack where you deal with maggots onboard the plane, secret smokers, customers complaining about the food, crying babies with abusive parents, and the ever-popular emergency exit profanity-laced tirade level. THAT’s what I call an expansion pack!
